One of the game announcements from yesterday's Nintendo Direct was Rayman Legends: Definitive Edition, an enhanced port of the award-winning co-op platformer. Rayman Legends: Definitive Edition will retain all the gameplay features and levels present in previous versions, but it will be adding new bells and whistles as well, including the ability to play co-op across Nintendo Switch consoles.
Rayman, winner of multiple artistic and musical achievements, is coming to the Nintendo Switch system in Rayman® Legends Definitive Edition! Rayman, Globox, and the Teensies are off wandering through an enchanted forest when they discover a mysterious tent filled with a series of captivating paintings. Rayman, winner of multiple artistic and musical achievements, is coming to Nintendo Switch™ with Rayman Legends Definitive Edition. This definitive edition contains the acclaimed game Rayman® Legends – 92 on Metacritic for Wii U™ – as well as new exclusive features.
Since not many Switch games support this feature yet, some may have been completely unaware that the consoles can communicate with one another, allowing people to play co-op games with their own screen. It's similar to how multiplayer and co-op works on other handheld systems, like the Nintendo 3DS, for instance.
Rayman Switch Before You Buy
Rayman Legends doesn't support online multiplayer, so this added multiplayer functionality should give the game a little more value than its counterparts on other platforms. However, the Switch version of Rayman Legends adds more than just co-op across Switch consoles. Rayman Legends: Definitive Edition is also expanding the game's Kung Foot mode (a hectic take on soccer) by adding solo play against the AI as well as tournaments that players can set up with their friends locally.
Rayman Legends: Definitive Edition may have even more up its sleeve, but for now, all we know about for sure is the expanded Kung Foot mode and the new options for c0-op play. It's possible that the game will add more levels or take advantage of the Switch's motion controls in lieu of the GamePad features from the Wii U version, but that's just speculation at this time.
Speaking of the Wii U version, the console-exclusive content that was featured in that game will also be making its way to the Switch version. For example, the Mario and Luigi costumes from the Wii U version were shown during the Nintendo Direct presentation at numerous points, so it seems as though they're a lock for Rayman Legends: Definitive Edition.
As it stands, Rayman Legends: Definitive Edition has a vague release date of '2017,' which means more information on any new features could come at any time. It's possible that the game will be featured at E3 2017, either during Ubisoft's press conference or Nintendo's presentation, so Rayman fans should keep their eyes peeled come June.
Rayman Legends is available now for PC, PS3, PS4, Wii U, Xbox 360, and Xbox One. The Nintendo Switch version of the game will be available at some point in 2017.
